Pueblo, Colo., March 17, 2026 — The Pueblo Urban Renewal Authority (PURA) is excited to announce the appointment of its new Executive Director. Cherish K. Deeg will serve as PURA’s
Ex
ecutive Director effective March 10, 2026. This pivotal moment ushers in a new era in PURA’s continued growth.
Ms. Deeg has over a decade of experience with PURA, most recently serving as the Interim Executive Director. Her experience helping enact urban renewal areas and working with tax increment financing (TIF) as well as her history with the organization, make her an invaluable asset to this role.
“We are thrilled to have Cherish step into this role,” said Dr. Garrison Ortiz, Chairman of the Board. “Throughout her dedicated service, she has a proven understanding of the operations of PURA and vast experience with urban renewal work. We are confident Cherish will lead PURA into a new era of collaboration and innovation.”
As Executive Director, Ms. Deeg will continue to guide PURA’s strategic vision- overseeing initiatives to revitalize project areas, deepening collaboration and engagement with partners, and advancing blight removal efforts.
“I am excited to continue helping PURA advance the mission of making Pueblo greater every day,” said Ms. Deeg. “I am also honored for the trust that the Board is placing in me with this role. Together the PURA Board and staff can make an impact on our home for future generations.”
PURA’s leadership transition comes at a key time as the Authority works to forge ahead with revitalizing key areas while working diligently to help continue growth within Pueblo.
