Project Area Info
Project Area Highlights:
The Plan: 2007-2032
This project area was established in 2007 with the goal of facilitating mixed-use development and increased retail and public infrastructure upgrades.
Lake Avenue Streetscape Project
Safety measures such as narrowing the street, widening sidewalks, pedestrian lighting, and infrastructure updates were components of this project. In 2013, PURA hosted a ribbon cutting for a $3 million streetscape project.
As part of the Streetscape project, PURA protects their investment through a multi-year maintenance contract.
To complement the streetscape project, PURA invested in property improvements for several businesses located on Lake Avenue.
New Fire Station No. 4
In 2011, PURA contributed $250,000 toward the flagship, Fire Station No. 4 located at 2201 Lake Avenue. This station serves the Bessemer and Minnequa Heights neighborhoods.
Pueblo Boulevard Commercial Development
PURA is partnering with the City of Pueblo and private developers to support continued commercial growth along the Pueblo Boulevard corridor. To accommodate increased traffic generated by new restaurant and retail development at Pueblo Boulevard and Mirror Avenue, PURA is working with project partners to facilitate required Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) infrastructure improvements, including a new traffic signal to help ensure safe and efficient travel throughout the area.
In addition, the PURA Board has completed the sale of the Sunnyside Lots, a key step in advancing further commercial development along Pueblo Boulevard. Together, these efforts demonstrate how strategic infrastructure investments and property redevelopment can create opportunities for new businesses, enhance accessibility, and support long-term economic growth within the community.
